KIRO 7 News Seattle: Navigating mass layoffs at your company

When work changes suddenly, having the right support can make all the difference.

Through WorkSource Seattle–King County, individuals navigating layoffs can access career guidance, job search assistance, retraining opportunities, and direct connections to employers. These services aren’t one-size-fits-all; they’re tailored, practical, and delivered by experienced professionals who understand today’s labor market.

As the region’s workforce development board, the Workforce Development Council of Seattle–King County (WDC) funds, oversees, and coordinates the WorkSource system across our area. Ensuring that workers have timely access to career navigation, reemployment services, and training pathways - especially during periods of economic disruption - is core to our mission.

A critical part of this work is Rapid Response: when layoffs are announced, WDC partners directly with employers to coordinate early, on-site (or virtual) support for impacted workers. These Rapid Response services connect people to unemployment guidance, job leads, training options, and career planning so they can move forward with clarity and confidence.

If you or someone you know is facing a layoff, help is available now. Explore job search and career support through WorkSource Seattle–King County.

We’re grateful to KIRO 7 News Seattle for highlighting the real impact of these services, including the support available at local centers like WorkSource Rainier.
