U.S. Secretary of Labor visits WorkSource Seattle-King County

On Friday, Oct. 12, U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis held a community conversation at WorkSource Affiliate Downtown Seattle.

Sec Solis with KC Exec Constantine and WDC CEO Marlena Sessions.

After speaking about the importance of education — including skills training as well as four-year degrees — for our workforce, the Secretary took questions from the audience of more than 70 community members.

King County Executive Dow Constantine welcomed the Secretary, acknowledging the contribution of Dept. of Labor funding to our local community and the leadership of the WDC–the federally mandated local workforce investment board–in directing those investments.

Special guest Yolanda Cooper, a customer of WorkSource Downtown Seattle, told the group about her yearlong journey from homelessness to employment, an apartment, and a future career through the help she received from her WorkSource employment specialist, Kamaria.
