Senator Cantwell in Seattle to support small business

Senator Maria Cantwell visited Seattle on June 3 for a press conference focusing on the Senator’s support for small business lending legislation to get capital moving for businesses to spur growth and job creation. See the press release… Speakers also emphasized the importance of trades apprenticeships and other workforce development to ensure that small businesses can find the skilled workers they need.

A great small manufacturing business, 103-year-old Markey Machinery in Georgetown, hosted the event. Among the speakers were Bob LeCoque, co-owner of Markey Machinery; Markey employee A.J. Wheatley, a young man who followed his father into the company; Art Wright, VP & Operations Manager of oceanographic manufacturer Williamson & Associates Inc.; Glen Deutsch, chairman of the board of Community Bankers of Washington and CEO of Prime Pacific Bank; and, on the importance of apprenticeship, Dan Morgan of IAM District 160 and Laura Hopkins of the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee. AJAC is a partner in the WDC’s GreenLight Project, providing training at South Seattle Community College’s Georgetown Campus.
