   Lowering Barriers to    Employment

Many job seekers experience temporary or permanent barriers that affect their ability to obtain, retain and progress in work settings that lead to economic self-sufficiency. Recognizing these challenges, the WDC emphasizes systems improvements that increase (1) the ability of the local employment and training system to address a diversity of individual needs; and (2) specific, focused services to individuals who would benefit from customized services. In its efforts to lower individual barriers to employment, the WDC takes a specific leadership role in services to refugees and immigrants, populations with limited English proficiency and persons with disabilities.
