Health Care
Overview
Health care has become one of the largest employment sectors in Washington State. Over 10,000 new health care jobs will be created in Seattle-King County alone by 2012.
Yet our state and King County face a critical shortage of workers to fill those jobs. The WDC is committed to solutions: We partner with colleges to keep the pipeline open so that people who want health-care careers can access the courses they need. We also have solid partnerships with local hospitals to help hospital employees—even those in low-skill jobs such as custodial and food service—move up the career ladder. Finally, the WDC targets the future workforce with programs to inspire youth to consider health-care careers and to get them started early on a career path.
