Health
care has become one of the largest employment sectors in Washington
State. Over
10,000 new health care jobs will be created in Seattle-King County alone by 2012.
Yet our state and King County face a critical shortage of workers to fill those jobs. The WDC is committed to solutions to this crisis. We partner with colleges to keep the pipeline open so that people who want health-care careers can access the courses they need. We also have solid partnerships with local hospitals to help hospital employees—even those in low-skill jobs such as custodial and food service—move up the career ladder. Finally, the WDC targets the future workforce with programs to inspire youth to consider health-care careers and to get them started early on a career path.
